For Your Information: Potential Scam For Annual Business Registration
Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 07:57AM As a small business owner, you probably receive floods of emails, postal mail and phone calls wanting you to pay attention to something important, or to purchase a service provided. Unfortunately there are times where marketing can be deceiving and lead you to believe that you are required to do something for your business that isnt accurate and may actually be a scam. Here is one of those examples:
An email informing me that I needed to complete my Annual Business Registration for the State of Minnesota came to my inbox recently. At first it looked legitimate and then I quickly did some research and realized that is was NOT an official notice from the State; rather it was a solicitation for business from another business.
Annual business registrations for the state of Minnesota for 2011 are due by 12.31.2011. You are required to annually register your corporation with the state. This registration historically has been done by tax preparers at the time of filing your taxes but that is not necessarily the case anymore. You can easily complete your annual registration online at http://mblsportal.sos.state.mn.us/. This process is easy and there is no fee unless your business has been terminated or revoked in which case there is a $25.00 reinstatement fee.
